Bandwidth Splitter for Microsoft ISA Server 2004-200

Bandwidth Splitter for Microsoft ISA Server 2004-2006

Bandwidth Splitter is a program extension for Microsoft ISA Server that supplements it with new features to allow more rational sharing of the existing Internet connection bandwidth and distributing it among all users and servers according to preset rules. he principal features of Bandwidth Splitter are: * Limiting of the Internet connection bandwidth used by individual users and hosts, as well as groups of users and hosts (traffic shaping, throttling) * Setting up quotas for the maximum allowable Internet traffic use (in megabytes) for a set period of time (a day, a week or a month) for individual users and hosts, as well as groups of users and hosts * Real-time monitoring of all users and their connections through ISA Server by the administrator, including the bandwidths used by individual users and connections With Bandwidth Splitter you will get the following benefits: * Great real-time monitoring abilities let administrator to effectively control traffic usage (see screenshot) * Rational distribution of the Internet channel bandwidth (you establish the rules) * Reducing Internet costs because of limiting non-priority traffic (peer-to-peer exchange, big downloads, etc) * Comfortable work for important users * Limit traffic usage of wasteful users * Saving users' working time because of more guaranteed bandwidth allocation * Users can track their internet activity in real-time using special utility (see screenshot) * Save your time because you don't need to generate reports every time you want to know bandwidth usage details. Just see it in real-time. Features * Full integration with ISA Server and its management console (remote control being possible as well) * ISA Server arrays with multiple servers are supported * Managing the traffic of all HTTP, HTTPS and FTP connections (for web proxy clients) and TCP/UDP connections (for FWC and SNAT clients). Version for ISA 2004/2006 is also capable to manage all TCP/UDP traffic of DMZ servers and all others that use ISA Server as NAT or router. * Managing the traffic of published servers * Setting up the allowable channel bandwidth for individual users (by AD accounts) and hosts (by IP addresses) and groups of users and hosts * Flexible allocation of bandwidth depending on the time of the day or the day of the week (Schedules) and requested server addresses (Destinations) * Even channel distribution for users inside groups (in case bandwidth is allocated to a group of users) * Even distribution of bandwidth for the active connections of each user * It is possible to set speed limits and quotas separately for incoming and/or outgoing, or total (incoming + outgoing) traffic * Limiting the number of simultaneous connections from individual users and hosts * For some types of web pages, you can set the download speed higher than the standard speed not to let the restrictions slow down the normal work of users (HTTP Boost) * It is possible to set unlimited download speed for cached web content * Setting traffic quotas for users, hosts, groups of users and groups of hosts per day, week, month or without any time limitations along with a possibility to automatically reallocate the unused traffic to the next period * It is possible not to take the cached web content into account in traffic usage counters * It is possible not to take the traffic to specified destinations or at specified time into account in traffic usage counters (this is useful if there is a high-speed connection with some networks and there is no need to limit that traffic while limiting traffic to other destinations) * It is possible to not just block users' access to Internet when their traffic quota has been exceeded, but instead to use a different shaping rule, without blocking access to Internet * Real time monitoring of all users and hosts that access Internet through ISA Server with detailed information on all their connections, including bandwidth usage graphs for individual users and connections * Transparency for users: you do not need to install any software on client computers * Users may use special client monitor utility to track consuming bandwidth and traffic quota remainder in real-time * It is possible to customize web pages that users see when their quota exceeded * Support of up to several thousands of simultaneously working users * High performance and small extra load for the CPU * Free if used with up to 10 clients Connections Serviced Bandwidth Splitter is built into ISA Server using web and application filters to control most traffic going through ISA Server. Bandwidth Splitter has power to control: * Outgoing web proxy connections (HTTP, HTTPS and FTP) * Connections of Firewall clients (all TCP/UDP connections) * Connections of SecureNAT clients (all TCP/UDP connections) * Connections of published servers * Connections established through application filters (the built-in SOCKS4 filter or third-party SOCKS5 filters) * Connections of the Scheduled Content Download/Job Scheduler service * Version for ISA 2004/2006 only: All routed TCP/UDP connections passed through ISA Server (from DMZ servers, etc) Bandwidth Splitter do not control: * Low-level, non TCP/UDP based protocol connections (e.g. ICMP) * In version for ISA 2004/2006 only: Connections between the Local Host network and any internal network (any distinct from External). It is done intentionally because these connections are especially critical, and generally they do not need any bandwidth control. * In version for ISA 2000 only: Routed IP packets (set up in IP Packet Filters) including all data going from/to the DMZ area How it works? Unlike numerous other tools for ISA Server that just count traffic by analyzing log files, Bandwidth Splitter deeply integrates into ISA Server to control most of the traffic. However it does not install any network drivers. Bandwidth Splitter operates using web filter to control web traffic (HTTP, HTTPS and outbound FTP), and application filter to control all other TCP/UDP traffic. These filters extend ISA Server functionality allowing you to count and shape traffic. This means that Bandwidth Splitter is just an add-on for ISA Server for traffic/bandwidth management. It does not brake or replace ISA Server security or functionality. Because of that integration with ISA Server, Bandwidth Splitter can shape traffic based on user accounts (not only by IP addresses) regardless which workstations are used by clients.

RealVNC Enterprise 4.5

 RealVNC Enterprise 4.5

RealVNC Enterprise 4.5 | 5.81 Mb

RealVNC is a server and client application for the Virtual Network Computing (VNC) protocol to control another computer's screen remotely. RealVNC is produced by the company RealVNC Ltd., which was founded by the same AT&T team that created the original VNC program. RealVNC can be seen as a continuation of the original VNC program. RealVNC runs on Windows, Mac OS X (Enterprise edition only), and many Unix-like operating systems (Free & Enterprise editions only). There is also a RealVNC client which runs on the Java platform. There are beta versions of the Enterprise edition for Pocket PC and 'VNC-over-HTTP' tunnelling for Windows and Linux.

VNC has a wide range of applications including system administration, IT support and helpdesks. It can also be used to support the mobile user, both for hot desking within the enterprise and also to provide remote access at home, or on the road. The system allows several connections to the same desktop, providing an invaluable tool for collaborative or shared working in the workplace or classroom. Computer support within the geographically spread family is an ever popular use.

For the individual user, one common scenario is using VNC to help troubleshoot the computer of a distant less-technically-savvy relative. In other words, sitting at your desk in Baltimore, you could use VNC to take control of your relative's PC in California and show them how to install and use some new software package by actually doing it yourself.

A very common business application of VNC is in remote system administration, where it is used to allow administrators to take control of employee machines to diagnose and fix problems, or to access and administer server machines without making a trip to the console. VNC can also be used to provide a flexible hot-desking and road-warrior environment by allowing employees to access their office desktop and server machines from any machine in the company's offices or from other remote sites, regardless of the type of computers involved at either end.

VNC
is widely used in educational contexts, for example to allow a distributed group of students simultaneously to view a computer screen being manipulated by an instructor, or to allow the instructor to take control of the students' computers to provide assistance. Of course, as these examples illustrate, the variety of uses of VNC is really as diverse as the many millions of VNC users.

Windows XP SP3 RTM Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Pack

Sunday, February 15, 2009

The Multilingual User Interface Pack for Windows XP is designed to enable the end user to swap the languages for the graphical user interface. Microsoft has available a version of the MUI Pack which is tailored to XP Service Pack 2. Now, with the advent of XP SP3, the Redmond company has not made available a new variant of the MUI Pack, but instead introduced an update set up to make the Multilingual User Interface package for XP SP2 play well with Service Pack 3. The update is, in fact, meant to fix an incongruity between the MUI Pack and the gold bits of XP SP3.

“On a computer that is running the English version of Windows XP SP3 with the Windows XP SP2 Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Pack, you can select a non-English language for the user interface (UI). However, text may appear in English in the UI instead of in the selected language. The English text may appear in lists, menus, dialog boxes, product Help, and other locations,” Microsoft informed.

Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 3.0, Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 6.1, Network Access Protection (NAP) and Scripting binaries are the components Microsoft pointed to as failing to integrate seamlessly into XP SP3. The update resolves all issues, according to the company. “Install this package to get the Microsoft Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) Update for Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3),” Microsoft revealed.

“As noted on TechNet off the main Windows XP TechCenter, Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) is now available for download and install via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center. Windows XP SP3 includes all previously released updates for the operating system, in addition to a small number of new updates. Windows XP SP3 will not significantly change the Windows XP experience. We recommend customers use Windows Update to install the service pack, as it will provide the best experience,” revealed M3 Sweatt, the Chief of Staff of the Windows Core Operating System Division (COSD) at Microsoft.

Windows Search 4.0

Microsoft plans to debut serving Windows Search 4.0 automatically to Windows Vista Service Pack 1 by the end of July. With the final version up for grabs through the Download Center since the beginning of June 2008, the Redmond company is now wrapping up Windows Search 4.0 for delivery through Windows Update. However, only users with Windows Vista with Automatic Update enabled will receive the update by default; Windows XP users running either Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 will have to perform a manual upgrade.

“Windows XP users will see Windows Search 4.0 available as an Optional update, which means you must visit the Windows Update Web site to install it. Windows Vista users with SP1 installed will see the update as a Recommended update. This means that, if a Windows Vista user has set their machine to automatically install updates, Windows Search 4.0 will automatically install on PCs running Windows Vista SP1. The release of Windows Search 4.0 to Windows Update will be gradual for these users,” revealed a member of the Microsoft Update team.

This means that some Vista SP1 machines will not get Windows Search 4.0 automatically when it becomes available through WU. In this context, end users have two options available, they can either upgrade manually with the bits offered through the Download Center or wait until Windows Search 4.0 is available for download via Windows Update and deploy it ahead of the AU infrastructure. At the same time, Microsoft offers Vista users with Automatic Updates enabled the possibility to block the automatic delivery of Windows Search 4.0.

“One thing you should note: In order to make search functionality more efficient and reliable, the Windows Search team updated the structure of the search index in this release. This requires re-indexing users’ data. The re-indexing occurs in the background after the installation is completed and a reboot has been performed. The cool part? Windows Search will release most of the requested resources and slow down the indexing process as soon as it detects mouse or keyboard activity, or when another application requires computer resources,” the MU team representative added.

Windows Search 4.0 is available for download vista x86. vista x64. XP x86. XP x64.

Top 10 Causes your computer slows

1. System Start-up packed with too many applications (Start-up overload)

Over time, as you add more and more programs to your computer, many of these applications automatically add themselves to your Windows Start-up folder. Additionally, these applications can add themselves quietly to a hidden area of your Windows Start-up system (accessed via the MSCONFIG run command). In extreme cases your PC will appear completely frozen.

Limiting the number of applications loading themselves at start-up can speed boot times considerably and increase overall system performance.

2. Spyware

Malicious programs that stealthily embed themselves into your Windows Registry and core file system are the number two most common cause of a slow PC or poor PC performance.

These applications are usually installed without your knowledge or consent during the installation of a “free” application you’re trying out, or pushed out automatically in the background when you visit websites that engage in this practice without the user’s knowledge.

These spyware programs must be removed as soon as possible to return your PC to top running speed, and before they damage your file system.

In some cases they can be removed by manually editing the Windows core file system and registry or by using an automatic spyware remover like XoftspySE, our favorite pick for spyware removal and cleaning.

3. Corrupted/Bloated Windows Registry

The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.

Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.

4. Badly Fragmented Hard Drive

The sixth most common reason for a slow PC is hard drive and file system fragmentation. Over time, your computer’s files can be scattered into bits and pieces located all over your hard drive. This is called fragmentation. Windows has a built in tool to help you with hard drive defragmentation:

* Open My Computer,
* Right-click once on your C: Drive and go down to “Properties”
* Select the “Tools” tab and choose the “Defragment Now” option and follow the step by step instructions.

5. Poor Security Software that is stealing system resources

Unfortunately, a large number of security software programs and suites out there demand a huge portion of your system resources and memory. This can lead to sluggish performance from the rest of your PC while your security software is constantly scanning and monitoring your computer for threats.

While threat detection is essential, some security vendors go overboard with their approach and drag your PC down with them.

To see how much memory and system resources your security software is using, press and hold CTRL+ALT+DELETE and choose the task manager.

Once the task manager is open look at the “processes” section to see how much of your system resources are being used by your security apps.

6. Remnants of uninstalled programs

Uninstalling an application either via the control panel or the application’s start menu folder has been known to leave behind remnants of the uninstalled program. These remnants can slow down your computer while Windows tries to figure out what to do with them. Additionally, residue of old program stays behind in your system registry, clogging up your PC’s core.

7. Pagefile

The Windows page file is a temporary area of memory that your computer uses to move files around while it processes functions. Basically, it’s a buffer that your computer uses for wiggle room. If your Pagefile is too small, your operating system won’t have enough room to move and you could end up with poor performance and error messages.

To increase the size of your Pagefile:

* Right-click on “My Computer” and go down to “Properties”
* Click the “Advanced” tab
* Click “Settings” under the “Performance” section
* Click the “Advanced” button
* Click “Change” under “Virtual Memory”

8. Hard Drive getting full and too many internet temp and windows temp files

If your hard drive has less than 10% free space, you will experience a dramatic slowdown in the performance of your PC. To improve this, free up some space by removing old documents you no longer use or programs that are no longer needed.

9. Virus

Closely related to Spyware, viruses can wreak havoc on your system’s performance and severely limit your PC’s ability to do what you ask it to.

Typically, viruses get onto your computer via infected email or instant messages, although they can also be installed via applications or files that you download from file-sharing networks and other non-trusted web sites.

10. Hardware Problems

The fourth most common cause of a slow or freezing computer is gradually dying internal hardware components. These can often show up in the form of slow boot and shut down, as well as poor program launches riddled with errors.

There are very few hardware diagnostic utilities out there, so we recommend careful removal of any newly installed pc components to see if they are causing a problem or incompatibility. Other than that, taking your PC to a certified, trusted hardware repair shop is usually a good idea.

How to Recover Deleted Data

Note:
A.Download and install ZAR
B.The program works if you had it installed when you’ve lost your data.
C.You can use Zero Assumption Recovery to recover deleted photos from your digital camera memory card.

1. As soon as you accidentally deleted your precious data stop using your hard drive, don’t install or uninstall new programs or anything else. This is necessary so the new information will not be overwritten on your deleted files.

2. Run Zero Assumption Recovery.

3. Select the hard drive you want to scan. Wait for the scan to finish. This can take between one and two hours.

4. Then you’ll see a list of your missing folders and files. The freeware version of Zero Assumption Recovery allows you to recover up to four folders per scan. If you buy the full version, you get full recovery.

Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic Utility

Windows Memory Diagnostic is a free utility available for download from Microsoft designed to sniff out flaws in a machine’s RAM modules. The fact is that the source of the now ubiquitous blue screen is not always Windows, or any piece of code for that matter. The fault could just as well reside in system memory, and this is where Windows Memory Diagnostic comes in. The tool is capable of evaluating the RAM on a computer and identifying any error.

“Windows Memory Diagnostic supports x86-based computers with the following microprocessors: Intel - Pentium or Celeron families; AMD - K6, Athlon, or Duron families; and microprocessors compatible with those listed above. You can test all types of RAM that run on x86-based computers with the supported microprocessors,” reveals Microsoft’s description of the tool.

Both Windows Vista and Windows XP users will be able to create bootable media (either a floppy or a CD) which can be used in its turn in order to boot the computer. Windows Vista already features the tool integrated as a default component under Administrative Tools, or accessible via the Repair option in the operating system’s installation media. However, Vista offers a slimmed down version, with little visual feedback and less options. Instead, the Windows Memory Diagnostic utility comes with three categories of tests, namely Basic, Standard and Extended. Users can choose between running two tests in Basic mode, six in Standard and 11 in Extended and a scenario which is bound to last at least the entire night.

“However, if you have error checking and correcting (ECC) RAM, Windows Memory Diagnostic may not report any errors because the ECC mechanism automatically detects and corrects the error. It might still be useful to run Windows Memory Diagnostic if you have ECC RAM because it may detect errors that the ECC RAM is unable to correct (which indicates problems with the RAM). Windows Memory Diagnostic is limited to testing only the first 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM. If you have more than 4 GB of RAM, the remaining RAM after the first 4 GB will not be tested by Windows Memory Diagnostic,” Microsoft added.

10 Tips to Make Your Computer Run Faster

1. Upgrade Your RAM

Yeah, the most obvious tip but people hardly upgrade it. RAM these days is very cheap, especially if you buy it through Amazon or eBay. When I checked Amazon, the price of 1 GB RAM was around $20-$30.

2. Get Rid of Unneeded Software

Most PCs come shipped with unneeded software. Uninstall all of them. I’m sure there are better alternatives to those software. For example, my PC came shipped from hp with lots of bloatware such as HP Image Zone, Norton AntiVirus 2004, Record Now! CD & DVD Burning software etc. I uninstalled all of them and replaced them with better software like Picasa and Nero.

3. Keep Only One Browser

This is part of the getting rid of unneeded applications but I decided to separate it because so many people have 3, or even 4 browsers installed on their computer. I used to do this; I used to have Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Safari. Now I only have Mozilla Firefox. Yes, I even removed Internet Explorer!

Now you might be wondering how do I update Windows without Internet Explorer, right? Here’s how I do it, and you can too: To update Windows from within Firefox, just download the IE Tab add-on. Using that plugin, you can access IE only sites like Windows Update with ease.

4. Get an All-in-One Solution for Your IM Needs

I’m guessing that most of you have at least 2 IM clients installed. Uninstall all of them. Instead, get Digsby. Digsby is an All-in-One solution for your social media and IM needs.

5. Limit the Programs that Start Automatically

The programs that load automatically after your Windows starts can severely cripple the load time. To reduce the number of programs that start auto-load, download Revo Uninstaller. Disable the autoloading of applications carefully though. The rule of thumb is that if you don’t know what the app does, don’t disable it.

6. Delay the Startup of Your Remaining Autoloading Programs

Even after you’ve disabled the autoloading of most programs, there still is room to improve. The thing is that when your PC starts up, all your startup apps are fighting to run at the same time, which creates a bottleneck. To mitigate this effect, you can delay the launch of each of your startup program by a few seconds or minutes. Startup Delayer is an awesome app that does this.

7. Tweak Windows’s Display & Animation Settings

Right-click on “My Computer” > Go to the “Advanced” tab and click on “Settings” under “Performance”. Now uncheck the checkbox next to “Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing”. Disabling them won’t make your PC behave quicker per se but it will fasten the minimizing and maximizing of windows.

8. Disable Desktop Shortcuts

Shortcuts on your desktop are a waste. Not only do they increase your computer startup time, they also are an inefficient way to open stuff. There are more efficient ways to access applications, such through the Start Menu, the Quick Launch menu, or through software such as Launchy. To hide desktop shortcuts, right-click on your desktop, go to “Arrange Icons by” and uncheck “Show Desktop Icons” by clicking on it.

9. Check for Malware, Spyware, Viruses Regularly

The most important tip I can give you is to 1) have a firewall, 2) have an anti-spyware app, 3) have an anti-virus app, and 4) Regularly scan for viruses, spyware etc. If there’s a virus or some spyware slowing down your computer then none of the above tips can help you. You’ll first have to disinfect your PC. I use Ad-Aware 2008 as my anti-spyware app and Norton Internet Security 2009 as my firewall and anti-virus app.

10. Computer Troubleshooting

If you follow the ten tips that I wrote above, I can guarantee that your PC will run 2x or even 3x faster.

IE8 Beta in Windows 7

As is the case with any pre-release version of its software products, Microsoft has kept a close eye on Internet Explorer 8, monitoring the feedback delivered by end users, and tweaking the browser in accordance. The Redmond company has not only fixed bugs, but also delivered new features and changed the browser’s behavior following user input. And the message from Microsoft is to keep the feedback coming. In January 2009, Internet Explorer 8 evolved to Release Candidate stage for Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 releases came to the table with a post-Beta 2 but pre-RC Build of IE8. However, Windows 7 versions from the Release Candidate branch, including Build 7022 and 7032 feature IE8 RC.

“Please, be aware that the Internet Explorer 8 version on Windows 7 Beta is older than Internet Explorer 8 RC 1. So if you have an issue that reproduces on IE8 on Windows 7 and not on IE8 RC 1 then the issue has been fixed, unless it is an issue in an IE feature specific to Windows 7,” revealed Alison Burnett, IE program manager. “Please feel free to continue providing us with excellent feedback through our various feedback mechanisms (Technical Beta Program (invitational), Public Beta Program on Connect, Report a Bad Webpage Problem, IE Beta Newsgroup and the IE Developer Forum). For those who have downloaded the Windows 7 Beta, please file Internet Explorer 8 issues through the “Send Feedback” link on the top right corner of the browser.”

Burnett thanked all IE8 testers for their feedback, and even provided a few examples indicating the changes generated by user input. IE8, as of Beta 2, was capable of emulating IE7 without restart, a behavior that was not present in Beta 1. Following the release of the IE8 Partner Build, Microsoft fixed an issue where text on webpages disappeared from the browser.

“As we’ve now entered the last major phase of our product cycle, we’d like to thank everyone for their dedication to making Internet Explorer 8 a better product. As mentioned in IE8 Beta Feedback our Technical Beta Program provides a way for an invited set of beta testers around the world to test and file bugs against IE8. Since the release of beta 1, the technical beta community has continuously provided excellent feedback and we have fixed a significant amount of bugs because of it. By rating your most important bugs through the Connect site, you helped us identify the most impactful bugs to fix for IE8,” Burnett stated.
